Early People of Texas

The Mapping of Texas History:  Early Texas - People & Explorers

This lesson has kids map the native tribes of Texas, along with Spanish and French explorers (as seen on page 121 in the textbook).

Students who completed the Geography and Regions layer can see which regions of Texas each native tribe lived in. Then, they can easily make the connection on how the geography of Texas influenced how these people lived.

Be sure to tell the story of History while your kids are mapping to give them context of time. Once this is built, they can continue to use this map for reference, especially perhaps when talking about Cabeza de Vaca more in depth.

In this Mini-Q, students will analyze 4 documents and force them to take a stand on how Cabeza de Vaca was able to survive his shipwreck. Share this Slides presentation with students in Google Classroom so they will have their own copy to complete and turn back in to you digitally.
