Life in the New Republic

Chapter 14.2  Slavery &  Farming Connection

Picture
Use this Fundamental 5 Strategy to discuss what would have happened if plantation owners in the republic had to pay workers to plant and harvest cash crops, instead of relying on enslaved workers.

This is a Google Drawing that students will open up in another app like Explain Everything, or something else, to write on top of. If this were on a Chromebook or desktop computer, they could type directly into the boxes.

Farming Vs. Ranching

Use the Venn Diagram app to compare and contrast farming and ranching tin Texas.

Chapter Review Activity

Use this graphic organizer, to recall facts about each group in the Republic Era. This can be done as a whole group, individually, or even in groups of 4. When it has been completed, ask students questions like, "Which column would include information about William Goyens?" Ask volunteers to identify one fact they learned about other Texans like Mary Maverick, María Calvillo and Henri Castro.
