Spanish Colonial Texas

Missions, Presidios & Settlements

Students are creating a digital version of the foldable that they will be working on all week. For this week, students will use this Google Slides template to take notes over information from the chapter. This activity is designed to be a working progress for the entire week.

What To Do

  • As students read (or as you present) the information from each lesson of the chapter, students will take notes on the corresponding slide of the presentation.
  • Each slide asks students to: describe and explain the purpose of missions, presidios and settlements, describe the people who lived in each and explain why the physical location of a settlement helped determine its survival and success.
  • There are additional slides that give students the option to add pictures, an order of events and conclusion of the chapter.
  • Feel free to edit this to fit the needs of your classroom.

 Tejano Flipgrid  Question

Let your kids join other Texas History students in a conversation about the Tejano culture in colonial Texas. For our students, the Flipgrid app is available for download in the Self Service app on students' iPads. Then, all you need to do is post the topic link or whole grid for students to add their response.

We would love for teachers to contribute questions you would like to see posted each week. Our teachers can add questions to this spreadsheet using district credentials. If you're in another district and would like to contribute, please let us know!

Spanish Mission Structure ThingLink

Picture
Use the ThingLink app to analyze the structure of a Spanish mission. Create tags that explain and analyze parts if the mission. You can have kids record themselves verbally answering the critical thinking questions in the book.
***Kids can attach their ThingLink directly to Google Classroom from the ThingLink app. Don't forget to tell them to go back to Classroom to actually turn in the link.
