Texas Revolution

The  Mapping of Texas History:   Texas Revolution

This layer of our map has kids mapping events and battles leading up to and during the Revolution. Students will be able to see and understand the the proximity of which these events happen. It is also beneficial that the historical sites of these battles have been turned into historic parks and monuments that can be visited today.

TX & US Constitutions Flipgrid

Texas and U.S. Constitution Comparison

Use the Venn Diagram app to compare and contrast the Texas and U.S. Constitutions.
  • If students haven't used this app before, they'll have to create a new user.
  • Name the project.
  • Double click each circle of the diagram to name it, and choose "New Item" to add a fact.
  • When a New Item is added, students must label the item and provide a brief description.
  • Providing students with a list of information, like that on page 258, will help speed things along.
  • When done, press Finish. Save Final. Save. 2 images are saved to the camera roll - one picture of the venn diagram and one image that contains the descriptions they made of their labels. See pictures below.
  • To collect them, have students upload them to Google Drive and then turn them in to a Google Classroom assignment you create.
  • Students can also create a venn diagram comparing the Texas and US Declaration of Independences.

*The following activities may be better for review purposes, after you have covered the Texas Revolution in its entirety.

Texas Revolution Battle Chart Nearpod

Find this Nearpod in the Mesquite ISD Library under the Explore tab of Nearpod.com. If you share it as a Homework session, students can complete it at their own pace. This can serve as a review of all of the battles of the Texas Revolution and is meant to be used to complete the Battle Timeline file below. The timeline is compatible with the version of Pages on students' iPads, but you may want to save it as a .pdf if you want kids to complete it using another app on their iPad.

People of the Revolution

Picture
Attached are copies of the image to the left and a handout that contains notes for each person in the image. Students can use the ThingLink app to keep track of important people during the Texas Revolution.
  • Use Google Classroom to give all of your students a copy of the people placemat.
  • Create a ThingLink with the peoples' pictures as a placemat background.
  • Students add a tag on each picture identifying who the person is and why they are important. They can use their handout for clues.
