Where We're Headed With These Vocabulary Checks...

Building 7th grader's Social Studies vocabulary is a never ending task. That's why we want you and your team to come up with a plan to tackle all the different words your kids may see over a specific period of time, be it terms, people, places, battles, etc. Below are some ideas to hep you get started. Please share anything you've found to be successful or any questions you may have on the Padlet below. This first activity will be a very simple Quizlet, but we will progressively build on the technology level as each 6 week passes.

Student Task

Allow students to practice vocabulary words that they have seen throughout the first several chapters of the book.
  • First, have each student review the flashcards to the right. (Click on View this set to see them on Quizlet.com)
  • Then, let kids practice with whatever study mode appeals to them.
  • Kids like competition, so you could have head to head races using AirPlay and your projector.
  • Using the Live feature, your entire class can work in partners to quiz each other or even use for whole-group instruction (you'll need more than 10 words).
  • Maybe there are more terms your students are struggling with. Make a new set of cards to review for the end of the six weeks.
